COVID-19 has changed the world and how things are done. One year ago, if anyone said the phrases, “we need to wear masks” or “remember to be socially distant.” We would have thought they were crazy, but now those phrases are used daily and in every store.
Businesses have had to make adjustments in order to continue service, this includes industries like trucking. Now more than ever is a time for fleets to move forward. We are here to help, and have fleet management tips!
The first tip is to remember to keep everything clean and sanitized. The health and safety of your employees should be your first priority. One of the best ways to help stop the spread of COVID-19 is to keep everything clean. Be sure you are cleaning the inside of your cab, wearing gloves and sanitizing everything!
The second tip is to use technology! These past couple of months, businesses have learned to use Zoom, Google Hangouts and other technology in order to see someone’s face due to remote work.
One thing to know when working remotely is that over-communicating is better than not communicating at all. At TransWood, we focus on communication to help prevent mistakes, preventable accidents, cross drops and going over hours of service.
The third tip is to learn how to deal with stress! This is a stressful time for everyone, and it is recommended that drivers understand the dangers of lack of sleep and improper nutrition, which can lead to reckless driving since drivers are not as alert.
The fourth and final fleet management tips are to be prepared and plan ahead! A lot of things are uncertain right now, but there are things you can control. For example, truck stops that are overcrowded and you might need to wait over two hours for service.
Be sure to pack yourself extra food in your cab to ensure that you won’t starve while over the road driving. You can also prepare yourself by bringing extra gloves, masks and hand sanitizer. It is better to be cautious, especially as an essential worker.
As a fleet manager, you want to be in constant communication with your team to ensure that they are physically and mentally healthy, and at the same time, make sure they are focused and not distracted.
It’s the little things that can make a difference. Many things are out of the ordinary right now, but maintaining your normal routine can help reduce stress. Maybe a walk around the truck to stretch your hips and legs. A quick meditation routine can help to reduce stress too.
